IDM across the NU system

UNL uses its own login and password, called the My.UNL ID, which can be managed (password, etc) at https://trueyou.nebraska.edu/

For most users, the username follows the following scheme: "first initial" + ''last name" + "incremental number" (so, for example, the username for someone named "Jane Smith" might be jsmith88)

Users who have been around since before 2010 may still have a username that is prepended with an "s-" that signifies that they were a student when their account was made. No new usernames will be generated for UNL that use an "s-" (and these old s- usernames will slowly be phased out they leave UNL).

New users to UNL will set their password when they first claim their account, at https://trueyou.nebraska.edu/

Passwords must meet the following rules:

  • Must be between 10 and 127 characters in length
  • Must not contain values of attributes: accountId, email, lastname, firstname, fullname
  • Must meet at least 3 of the 4 following conditions:
    • Contain at least 1 Numeric character
    • Contain at least 1 Special character, ie: ~!@#$%^&*()_+=-`{}[]|\:";'<>,.?/
    • Contain at least 1 Uppercase letter
    • Contain at least 1 Lowercase letter

Each of the campuses uses their own username and password mechanism:

The separate NU campuses are working towards federation and hope to use campus identities to access shared services.
